High quality education needs high quality teachers and we are working to attract the best.
Encouraging good teachers to work in rural schools can, however, be a challenge. Village life can appear tough for families more used to the amenities often available in the city.
One of the things we seek to offer to attract and retain the best staff for our schools is high quality housing for staff and their loved ones. Thanks to a generous grant from a UK trust , the first such house (pictured) has just been completed at Soulyale School in north west Burkina Faso, with work on the second soon to start. As well as accommodation for a teacher and their family, solar powered electricity provides light for evening marking and preparation.
