At the Bethanie medical centre maternity unit, things can get a bit hectic at times.
Led by its Director, Muriel Ouedraogo (pictured right) the centre is based in Zongo, an informal settlement on the edge of the capital Ouagadougou, serving a local community of over 120,000 people. The majority of Zongo residents are young families and the small maternity unit with its associated ante and post natal classes see many hundreds of mums. bumps and babes passing though its doors each month.
Thanks to the support of a generous donor we recently completed a perimeter wall for the site on which the centre is built, which has imporbed security and privacy for the patients and others As a current priority, we are seeking to upgrade the equipment in the busy maternity unit, some of which is many decades old. The families who visit are served by a dedicated team of midwives, who provide ’24/7/365′ cover and we are also seeking funding to support them with further training.
