The rainy season in Burkina Faso marks the busiest time for local health professionals, with diseases such as malaria effecting far more people in the hot humid months.

At the Bethanie medical clinic (pictured), the average number of patients seeking help each day nearly doubles between May and October and facilities can be stretched.  Early diagnosis and rapid treatment are essential and the clinic is seeking to expand its testing and diagnostic facilities as well ass the number of in-patient beds in can offer.

This is part of a major development plan at Bethanie, which serves a local population of over 120,000, many of them living on less than the equivalent of $2 per day.
