Education is critical to long term development and the improvement of livelihoods, yet it is estimated that 70% of adults in Burkina Faso are illiterate.

We improve access to education through a bursary scheme, which provides support for the poorest families to help their children to go to school in 7 different schools.

We support staff salaries in two rural schools.

We facilitate ‘girls only’ teaching, where girls learn things specific to them (such as health and hygiene) and the chance to participate in ‘inspirational visits’ to meet successful local women.

We support staff salaries and provide equipment for a tailoring course.

We support a Literacy, Numeracy and Business Skills Project in the east of the country. After graduating from the 3 courses, graduates join together to form local co-operatives which are then able to source micro-finance locally to enable them to start small businesses.

In the last two years, we have seen successful weaving, market gardening and sheep rearing businesses develop from the project.

We provide a School Meals Programme in Bethel School in Gourcy, in the north of Burkina Faso. Every child receives a meal every day at school. Each year, we provide 50,000+ meals, and employ two women to prepare the meals.
