The New Year was a busy time for the midwives at Bethanie medical centre with six new ‘bundles of joy’ arriving in the first few days of January.

The midwife team provides 24/7/365 maternity cover to cater for such joyful events, as well as running ante and post natal care clinics for over 100 women a week.

Whilst such care is available in state funded hospitals in Burkina Faso, they are often very hard to reach without any means of transport and the cost of medicines and wait times can be high.  As a result, demand for our services is rising amongst the community of over 120,000 that the clinic serves in the informal settlement of Zongo, on the edge of the capital Ouagadougou.
